Distance Run Coaching

I became a coach because I love distance running and I love helping people. I believe athletes of all levels are capable of personal bests and that it doesn’t matter whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or just trying to cross the finish line as long as you are constantly striving to be a better and stronger athlete.

As someone who has transitioned from an unhealthy lifestyle to an athlete and coach, I understand the challenges of building a runner’s body and confidence. Whether you are a back of the packer trying for a new distance, to gain fitness, or just establish a good routine, a middle of the pack runner trying to improve your time or build endurance, or a front runner trying to improve, I can help you achieve your goals.

I believe a strong base fitness combined with the right training plan incorporating supplemental training is the key to success in running. My coaching knowledge is specific to distance training up to 50K distance and my focus is on mid-to-back of the packers who want to get stronger and go longer.

My training philosophy is based on Jack Daniels Formula. Dr. Jack Daniels is a two time Olympic medalist and world-renowned exercise physiologist and running coach. He has coached National Champions, All-Americans, Olympians, and his VDOT formula is research-tested and results-proven. Using  your current fitness and goals, I use the VDOT formula to ensure my athletes are training at exactly the right intensity to get the most benefit from each workout. According to your experience level, fitness, and goals, your quality workouts will range from repetition and interval work to threshold and longer aerobic endurance work. I also encourage strength training and yoga as means of injury prevention. Sleep and nutrition are also considered a part of well-rounded training so you can feel free to blame that nap on me.

Ongoing (online) coaching

I truly believe that this is the absolute best way to get the most from your training. This type of training is the most highly personalized as your training will be developed based on your week-to-week progress.

Ongoing coaching includes:

  • Personalized training based on your fitness and goals delivered every 2 weeks
  • Individualized training paces for every workout
  • Updated paces to help you keep improving
  • Access to your training calendar online, at no cost to you
  • Access to my athlete community on Facebook where I share training information and you can connect with other athletes
  • Unlimited email and text support
  • Weekly 30 minute phone or video check-ins

With ongoing coaching you get unlimited access to me via text and email and new in 2017–weekly 30 minute check-ins via phone or video. I am happy to discuss anything and everything–your workouts, motivation, injury prevention, nutrition, race strategy, whatever you need.

Free access to the VDOT Training Platform–now available on mobile, Garmin sync coming soon–and the Facebook group are also included.

So how much is this gonna cost? According to length of commitment, anywhere from $30-$50 a month. (Less than a cup of coffee a day for pre-paid annual memberships!) My VIP roster for the first half of 2017 is full, but please reach out to me if you have interest.

Custom training plans

A custom training plan is created based on your fitness and can work towards a goal race or can be a fitness plan to build your base. If you don’t already have a goal in mind, I am happy to do a consultation and talk it through with you.

Training plans include:

  • A custom training plan based on your fitness and goals
  • Individualized training paces for every workout
  • Updated paces to help you keep improving
  • Access to the VDOT O2 training calendar, now available on mobile
  • Access to my athlete community on Facebook where I share training information and you can connect with other athletes

Plans range in price from $65-$110 based on length. You should plan for at least 1 week turnaround on custom training plans with longer duration plans, holidays, beginning of peak training cycles taking longer.
