Distance Run Coaching

I became a coach because I love distance running and I love helping people. I believe athletes of all levels are capable of personal bests and that it doesn’t matter whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or just trying to cross the finish line as long as you are constantly striving to be a better and stronger athlete.

As someone who has transitioned from an unhealthy lifestyle to an athlete and coach, I understand the challenges of building a runner’s body and confidence. Whether you are a back of the packer trying for a new distance, to gain fitness, or just establish a good routine, a middle of the pack runner trying to improve your time or build endurance, or a front runner trying to improve, I can help you achieve your goals.

I believe that developing a strong base of aerobic and physical fitness supplemented by personalized, specific training for your goals is the key to success in running. My coaching knowledge is specific to distance training up to 50K distance and my focus is on mid-to-back of the packers who want to get stronger and go longer.

My training philosophy is based on Jack Daniels Formula. Dr. Jack Daniels is a two time Olympic medalist and world-renowned exercise physiologist and running coach. He has coached National Champions, All-Americans, Olympians, and his VDOT formula is research-tested and results-proven. Using  your current fitness and goals, I use the VDOT formula to ensure you are training at exactly the right intensity to get the most benefit from each workout. According to your experience level, fitness, and goals, your quality workouts will range from repetition and interval work to threshold and longer aerobic endurance work. I also encourage strength training and yoga as means of injury prevention. Sleep and nutrition are also considered a part of well-rounded training so you can feel free to blame that nap on me.

Ongoing (online) coaching

I truly believe that this is the absolute best way to get the most from your training. This type of training is the most highly personalized as your training will be developed based on your week-to-week progress. I currently offer two levels of ongoing coaching.

All ongoing coaching plans include the following:

  • Personalized training based on your fitness and goals
  • Individualized heart rate zone or training paces for every workout depending on your preference
  • Access to your training calendar online and via mobile app with syncing from major platforms like Garmin
  • Unlimited email and text support
  • Pre and post-race phone or video check-ins weekly* and for every goal race
  • Nutrition counseling to help you achieve peak performance
  • Strength programming with tests to show progress
  • Access to the Distance Traveled Endurance Nutritional Calculators to help you plan your fueling for individual runs as well as for long-term goals
  • Access to strength and mobility movements and routines on my YouTube channel
  • Access to the athlete community on Facebook where I share training information and you can connect with other athletes

With ongoing coaching you get unlimited access to me via text and email. I am happy to discuss anything and everything–your workouts, motivation, injury prevention, nutrition, race strategy, whatever you need.

So how much is this going to cost? According to length of commitment and type of ongoing coaching you choose, as little as $40 a month. (Less than a cup of coffee in most places!)

Custom training plans

A custom training plan is created based on your fitness and can work towards a goal race or can be a fitness plan to build your base. If you don’t already have a goal in mind, I am happy to do a consultation and talk it through with you.

Training plans include:

  • 30 minute consultation call
  • A custom training plan based on your fitness and goals
  • Individualized training paces for every workout with pace progressions to help you keep improving
  • Access to the Distance Traveled Endurance Nutritional Calculators to help you plan your fueling for individual runs as well as for long-term goals
  • Access to strength and mobility movements and routines on my YouTube channel
  • Access to the athlete community on Facebook where I share training information and you can connect with other athletes
  • Individualized heart rate zones also available for an additional charge

Plans range in price based on length with options as low as $75. You should plan for at least 1 week turnaround on custom training plans with longer duration plans, holidays, beginning of peak training cycles taking longer.
